AIR

Breathing the Air Element helps bring clarity, insight, sacredness, and perspective to your being.

Albert Einstein is a great example of the Air Element energy. He used his intuition, as when imagining he was a photon traveling through space near the speed of light, and he had intense concentration and exceptional intellect.  He also had a spiritual quality, bringing compassion and sacredness to his work.

FIRE

Breathing the Fire Element will help you cultivate courage, action, purpose, and passion.

Harriet Tubman was born a slave, and in 1849 she fled to Philadelphia, leaving behind her husband, parents, and siblings. Over the course of 20 dangerous journeys she conducted upwards of 300 fugitive slaves along the Underground Railroad to Canada. By her extraordinary courage, ingenuity, persistence, and iron discipline which she enforced upon her charges, Tubman became the railroad’s most famous conductor and was known as the “Moses of her people.” It has been said that she never lost a fugitive she was leading to freedom.

WATER

Breathing the Water Element fosters connection, creativity, compassion, and love.

Fred Rogers was known as the creator, composer, producer, and head writer of the preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.  Fred Rogers' modeled kindness, community, and neighborly nurturing as a way of teaching children how to be.  He would end each program by telling his viewers, "You've made this day a special day, by just your being you. There's no person in the whole world like you; and I like you just the way you are."

EARTH

Breathing the Earth Element brings grounding, stability, inner strength, and peace.

Sacagawea was a bilingual Shoshone woman who accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1805-06 from the northern plains through the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and back. She acted as a translator between the expedition and Indigenous Peoples, as a naturalist, and a trail guide.  Everyone benefited from her knowledge of the earth, her food gathering skills, and her calming presence during the treacherous journey.  She brought her three-month old baby along with them, and gained the respect of the men early in the expedition when she rescued crucial supplies from a capsized boat.

In This Course You'll Learn How To:

  • Experience Air, Fire, Water and Earth in yourself using simple breath patterns
  • Purify your body, mind and heart with the Element breaths
  • Tap into the inner resources associated with the Elements (like clarity, passion, creativity, and stability)
  • Embody the heart qualities that you need to accomplish your goals
  • Gain a better understanding of people and situations by discerning their main Element
  • Discover your personal Elements and gain clarity about hidden aspects of yourself

What are the practical benefits of Element Breathing?

If your business is stuck, your family dynamic is strained, or your artistic expression is blocked, you can create change by introducing a new Element. People are typically adept at using one or two Elements, but inevitably the universe provides a problem that can't be solved with those energies. This is how Life stimulates growth: in order to meet our pressing need, we will have to learn how to access and use new forms of the subtle energy flowing through us.

The key to operating the subtle energies of the Elements is to use your heart, a great reservoir of spiritual energy that collects and distributes spirit. The four Elements operating within your heart are expressed as essential qualities of sacredness, truth, love and peace. They animate your movements, emotions, and heart qualities; by the Elements you become insightful, joyous, creative, dependable, idealistic, practical, and successful in the way you choose.

The Elements are available to us at every heartbeat; they ride on our breath. To understand the Elements is to know the nature of reality, and to operate the Elements is to create and re-create. By directing the Elements, we are able to tune the energy that flows through us so we can respond to others as a full heart would respond instead of a wounded heart. It's not acting; the heart is healed and rebuilt by the energy that flows through it, changing our behavior, intention, perception, and self-conception.

101 Course No Longer Required!

We're excited about making this change to our 102 Elements Course (for years we required students to have taken the 101 Foundations course before enrolling in this one).  Now that we have our self-paced beginner's course, Breath & Heart, we feel that new Heart Rhythm Meditators can dive into the Elements Breaths in the 102 course with some foundational HRM method support.  By including Breath & Heart as part of your enrollment, you will have the tools to learn the basic practice of Heart Rhythm Meditation. With this foundation, you'll be able to experience more depth and benefit during your experience in 102.

The Elements Breaths are so applicable to every day life issues.  We hope you enjoy exploring these fundamental qualities of breath and spirit, even if this is your first time studying with us.

"I cried, I laughed, I experienced a gamut of emotions that brought me to a greater understanding of the Four Elements and how I can implement them in everyday life as well as in times of great need for myself and others."

- Allison Mitchell, Neuromuscular Therapist, Reiki II Practitioner
