![]() Born in 1914 in Russia, Noor-un-Nisa was the eldest child of Hazrat
Inayat Khan. She was raised in London and in Paris, where she became a harpist and author of children's
stories.
When war broke out in 1939, she was 25 and having success as an author and musician. When the
Germans invaded France in 1940, she went to England and volunteered for the WRAF, and then the
Special Operations Executive, which infiltrated agents into occupied territory.
Operating from France as a radio operator, her transmissions were the most important in France
and the last to come from the continent. She was betrayed to the Germans, captured and executed at
Dachau in 1944.
